What is sports massage?
Modern massage most probably emanated from Sweden in the 19th century where the modern massage techniques of effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, (stroking, pressing/squeezing, striking) friction, etc, were formalised.
Sports massage is a sophisticated hands on deep tissue type treatment that combines the use of a variety of well proven massage and manipulative techniques to manage soft tissue (i.e. muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia). Sports massage can assist in the prevention of or recovery from injury and in the restoration of soft tissue function thus allowing you to maintain a healthy body. Sports massage used in conjunction with more advanced myo-fascial and structural integration techniques can assist in correcting posture and balance.
For sporting or other activity massage can be used to stimulate blood circulation providing oxygen and nurture to muscle more quickly. Sports massage can also be used to stimulate or calm to suit the individual or the sport in which they participate. By concurrent stimulation of the veinous and lymphatic systems massage assists in disposal of metabolic and other waste resulting from activity and injury thereby reducing recovery periods.
Whilst treatment is not always comfortable most people remark how good they feel following a sports massage treatment.
